I need to allow a relative to drive my car for a day at the end of the month, I have spoken to my insurer and on principle they allow this as long a it is specific temporary cover as the underwriter doesn't allow dual insurance.

How does this work? Any stand out companies that you have used?

If you don't want your own no-claims affected you could use day insurance.

I've used a company called Cuvva for day insurance in the past, worth a look

Hi, yes sorry I should have been more clearer. That is what they were refering to.

Unless the relative is a much higher risk profile to you (age, points etc), it can be cheaper just to add them as a named driver for the remaining duration of the normal policy. That works only if they hold a GB licence though.

There is obviously a small risk of them crashing and causing you to lose no claims discount, but there is the same risk every time you take the car out yourself. If I thought a relative or friend was at a significantly risk of crashing my car than I was, I'd not be lending it to them!

We've used Cuvva multiple times, it's a great product as you only pay for the amount of time driving the car.

Yup, echo the above... have used both Cuvva and RAC day insurance several times previously. Takes a few minutes to arrange, usually under £20 for the day so bit of a no brainer really.

Do they have their own car and insurance policy? They might have third party cover for driving your car. It's not fully comp but if it's just for a day might be worth the risk.

Many thanks all, had a look at Cuvva. I need to get their driving licence details to complete the quote.

They do have their own car and insurance, but I wouldn't risk 3rd party only.

Another who uses hour / day insurance. I've found it the best way to buy a car and cover it to get home and sort a years cover. I've also used it when sons car broke down and he had a job interview.
Longer time periods, usually cheaper to add person to existing policy.

mmm I used Cuvva before when i wanted to test drive a car that i eventually bought (a c63). worked brilliantly.

When i was looking for temporary insurance 2 years later, taking the same car out of storage - they refused, gave no reason and i havent had any points/claims in that time. strange one.

I've used cuvva, but they're a bit fussy over the vehicle age. I've bought day insurance to collect a classic with dayinsure and there's tempcover too.

Is it an old car? When I bought my present car, my insurer at the time wouldn't cover it as it was over 25 yo.
