2 weeks ago I mistakenly filled my 2.2 diesel vectra with BP ultimate diesel not realising it was 5p/litre more than standard diesel. I drove it home and managed high 50s mpg, no joke, driving normally (i was getting about 47mpg average till then).

I've since filled it up several times with the ordinary derv and am still getting about 55 mpg (if this carries on I will be getting about 700 miles a tank!). I can only think that the BP ultimate must of given the engine a good clean out or there is some residue in the tank. Either way I'm impressed.

Anyone else tried this stuff?

My boyfriend uses the Shell version (diesel extra?) in his A3 TDI quattro and has noticed quite a difference in mpg (he fills up with this stuff all the time). Bonus with that is it doesn't cost any more than the regular diesel, unlike the BP stuff. I'm sure someone told me before that you can still notice the 'effects' of this type of fuel for a short while after you stop using it.

I recently changed the oil in the clio, using Magnatec GTD instead of the Shell Helix that the dealer used - I'm now getting an extra 5-6 mpg out of it.

I also use Shell Diesel occasionally, but didn't notice a difference with that.

Wow! It cost me £1.48/litre today! Wonder if Gazboy is still buying petrol/diesel.

Anyway, anybody experienced a difference in using bp Ultimate diesel on old diesels like the XUD? I had a quick motorway blast as soon as filling up and the engine felt smoother/quieter than before. Looking forward to measuring mpg.

I tried dosing my mum's ancient XUD9T engined ZX with V-Power diesel a couple of times, can't say it made a huge difference. Much better is using standard diesel & Millers or Redex diesel additive.
My DW10 engined Focus is a different matter - definitely perkier on V-Power vs standard diesel.

It is crazy to think about how the prices were at that time! Makes me feel old. Almost feels like from a different era!

Cool stuff. Didn't know about that. Will try those additives with the basic fuel next time. smile

Couple miles more to the gallon if you're lucky. I haven't really noticed a difference considering it's about 7 or 8p more where I live, plus the nearest BP is 4 mile away.
80p a litre! WTF?

hehe, it used to be pretty normal to get 100miles per £10 spent.

Not any more.

My Dad recently put posh diesel (Shell's version I think) in his A4 3.0 TDI and upped the mpg on a trip from Inverness to Aberdeen from 44 mpg to 53.5 mpg! Properly calculated, no trip computer readings (usually 2 mpg optimistic I have found).

Need to try V Power in my 328i I think, I wonder if it will make a difference..
