What happened to that PH feature a few years ago where people wrote articles on their first car? They were good reads. Anyway, I just watched my beloved first car get dragged onto a flatbed to be taken away to the scrapyard. A sad day indeed. It had sat for two years doing nothing and was completely rotten, but still I feel bad for letting it go.
So, post up some stories about your first car, I don't think we've had a thread like this for a while, tell me I'm not the only one to be heartbroken by the loss!

A "grandad green" 1200c Mk1 Astra. Had been owned from new by my mates grandad and would only do 60 when I got it.

Ran it for 2 years and all it ever needed was a water pump. Did loads of auto testing in it too.

Chopped it in against a Sierra Sapphire 1.8LX. She was a beauty too biggrin

Mk1 Fiesta - GLT 421T. She was a really nice car finished in white. 1.1 engine and stonking Ghia trim.

Loved that little car.....

Ploughed into the back of a meastro at a roundabout and ended its life.....

I had a 1996 1.4 Corsa sport.

Loved it. By the time I was 18, It had been to the Nurburgring, Donnington Park, Santa pod and round pretty much every city in the Uk smashing it on the limiter.

What a beast. I still miss it to this day.

Yeah, when I first found this site a year or so back I remember reading them all, some really good articles.
How about a new year's resolution to bring it back, PH towers?shout

Superb car! (apart from front wheel falling off, twice)

I had a p reg 1.2 punto as a first car, the 4 months of ownership I had with it, it spent only 2 weeks on the road...

First day after passing My test I took the almighty trip from Manchester to newquay for a weeks holiday, 115 leptons all the way, and half way back till I got to Birmingham, where the car overheated. Resulted in knackered head and head gasket.

400 pound later back on the road, for the front wheels to lock up and a brake pad to go flying down the road, took it to the garage again who fixed my brakes.

1 week later the exhaust fell off, got the garage to fix it, they said there's no point as the broken exhaust was holding the rest of the car together, so scrapped it for 50 smackers, so in the 2 weeks of owning a car that cost me £1200 I spent 400 on engine, 100 on brakes.
I have memories of my first car, not fond ones though!

Ahh my old 1985 Volvo 340 1.4 GL 5dr. I miss that old barge, was getting increasing thirsty so got a little 106 and it sat in the yard for a few years until some lads bought it as a project. Cost us £30 in depreciation, £20 for a new starter and £80 for 4 new 'tyres' (I use the term loosely, they were feckin' terrible!

A beige Hillman Avenger, KWK 141K. £75 off a lad from Sheffield

17 years old, just passed my test and went with my dad to fetch it. My dad drove it home as I wasn't insured and the brakes failed - I wondered what was happening as the Avenger came flying past me as I braked for the roundabout at the end of the bypass in dads car... fortunately no traffic and he managed to nurse it home. I got to drive it a week later after one of his mates had sorted out the brakes... and I spun it twice within 30 mins of getting it (1st RWD car I'd driven) and then blew it up 3 months later.

Hillman Hunter 1725 back in '82, thought it was the nuts.

got pulled on the M4 J4 and was asked where the front bumper was, "in the boot" i replied. And the front indicators? "attached to the bumper". The other windscreen wiper? lets guess "in the Boot"

Lets have a look in this boot sonny, Keys?

" dont need them, the boot lid flaps about" !!!!!!!

they ripped the car to bits and i got done for dangerous condition, bald tyres and various other misdemeanors. 6 points coupled with my previous, on a fecking moped, resulted in 6 month ban!!

Car was consequently given away by my old man with the Alba radio cassette and a full bottle of Paco Rabanne in the glovebox worth more than the car!!!

Following from SOTW:

This was actually my second after I crashed the first. Free insurance paid out and then I reinsured for £1200! Those were the days when insurance was affordable, there is no way a 21 year old could do the same these days without a massive bill.

My first car was a Nova 1.0 Saloon hehe

Stolen after 6 days of ownership after parking it in Newcastle city centre. It was found a couple of days later in a nearby suburb. Apparently a decent quality screwdriver was all it took to open the door and start the car. The culprits were never found.

When i got it back my dad (who had also bought the car for me) bought a wheel clamp, so every time I parked it anywhere I had to put this wheel clamp on, which was a right old ball-ache. It worked though, didn't go missing again.

A few months later I was showing off to my mates in Newcastle again, picking them up from the pub after they had a night out, when I reversed without looking into a taxi.... Oops!

Soon after the car was giving me regular problems, so I had to get rid, traded in for a 1.0 Micra with 3 years free insurance (my insurance costs were going to be prohibitive after that accident). It cut out several times on the way to garage to pick it up, including once in the Tyne Tunnel - good job it started again as it would have been a hefty charge to get it towed out.

Once at the garage, I'd be surprised if it ever worked again. I left them with the broken car, which no doubt they just towed straight to the scrap yard hehe

Not mine but looked exactly the same. The year was 2000, I was 18. Having spent since 17 driving mum's 2CV and then her Daewoo Matiz (which she still has) I was desperate for something at least semi-cool and ended with one of these:

1991 Nova 1.4i Merit.

'99 Silver Mk4 Fiesta LX with the 1.25 Zetec engine (with optional extra A/C - NONE of my friends had that hehe )

Wrote it off on Christmas Eve, 2004 - T484 TGP.

Oil slick spilt by builders on the road - not my fault! I even videoed the road surface in case it went to court...
