Not your usual decision.

I’ve just bought a Renault which has nearly 3 years Renault Assistance. I also have a policy with nearly a year to run with Start Rescue, both with roughly the same benefits I.e recovery to home, overnight accommodation etc. If I cancel the Start Rescue I’ll probably get pennies back.

If heaven forbid I break down which one is the best to call and is one better than another?

I'd wager that they're both insurance-based schemes which use the same sub-contractors, so it's either six or two-threes. Spin the coin.

...not really SP&L stuff, though, is it?...

I have RAC and AA for various reasons, but I only pay for one.

When needed.m, I call both and see who has the shortest wait, in your case I’d probably do the same

One would hope the Renault cover would be better although most just farm it to the AA Or RAC these days.

Oh, and it’s when you break down, not if.

hehe

I stand by my answer. The other two options are dead certs for leaving the motorist by the roadside.

Yeah, I wasn't sure where to put it.

StartRescue is an annual fee, plus a call out charge. So you will probably get nothing back.
So cancel nothing and as said call whoever would seem quicker. However, surely a breakdown is very unlikely nowadays? My last call-out was probably a decade or more ago, hence why I prefer a call out charge and a lower annual fee.

Start Rescue sub contract everything to a company called Call Assist. Call Assist is in turn like an Uber for independent recovery contractors.

Start Rescue used to be highly rated by Which magazine, but have come down the rankings in recent years.

I would go for a company that has their own fleet of vehicles.

Green Flag.

Don't touch RAC with a bargepole, AA are better than RAC but that's not saying much.

And the question was:-

"If heaven forbid I break down which one is the best to call and is one better than another?"

Most people seem to have answered that question, including me.

What is the problem?

.

I don't know the details of Renault Assist but often manufacturer branded schemes guarantee(ish) a loan car so I'd go with that.

You've tried to be clever there and unfortunately failed.

It's fairly clear from OP that their question was whether they'd be better calling Renault Assistance (provided with the car they've just bought) or Start Rescue (existing policy that has nearly a year to run) and if anyone knew whether one would be better than the other. Nowhere did OP ask for opinions on other breakdown services.
