Novitec turns its hand to Cullinan Series II

Like a Rolls-Royce SUV, but just need more of everything? Novitec is on hand

Nobody buys a Rolls-Royce Cullinan to blend in with everyone else. The size, the presence and that grille mean it’s making a statement, whatever colour is chosen and whichever wheels are selected. But you know how it goes with statement SUVs and supercars - there’ll always be some who want to make even more of a statement. For those folk, Novitec is usually on hand, and here they are once more, with an Overdose widebody version of the Series II Cullinan from its luxury offshoot Spofec. 

There have been Overdose Rolls-Royces before - see the Dawn, plus the original Cullinan - and the new SUV very much follows the established script. The pumped up arches make this Cullinan fully 12cm wider than the production model, which sounds like an absolute disaster for London’s width restrictors. The wheels, as usual with Novitec builds, are a collaborative effort with Vossen, now 24-inch in diameter. Again, be very careful in urban areas - they look vulnerable. Although it should be said a very nice fit for Cullinan up to 35mm lower thanks to a suspension drop and with 20mm/25mm spacers on the front and rear axle respectively. 

Power comes from a lightly fettled version of the V12; the 6.75 is usually 570hp strong, or 600hp as a Black Badge. Here it’s making 707hp, thanks to some electronic wizardry and a rowdier exhaust. Nothing inside the engine is touched. Novitec states there’s an incredible 781lb ft of torque, sufficient for 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds - a ‘sportier’ exhaust note for the V12 is promised as well. 

Novitec also says it can ‘fulfil the individual wishes of any Rolls-Royce owner when it comes to the interior’. There it really is hard to imagine that the factory won’t have catered for every request when the car was originally made, but the offer is there from Germany if needed. Expect to spend a pretty penny to get a Cullinan like this, too: unmodified Series IIs remain more than £300k, and a widebody car from Urban Automotive in the UK is £449,995. But making an impact seldom comes cheap…

Dare I say it, that's not too bad for a tuner version. I quite like it. Hell, even the wheels are OK.

Seriously though, does anyone actually think that the Cullinan, standard of modified, is a decent looking car? Its absolutely vile from every angle. Suppose it doesn't matter so much if you're sat in it, looking out at the wedding convoy you're in with a load of rented Lambos etc though.

If I were in the market for a Cullinan I would seriously consider this. They have managed to tone down some parts / angles, and given it a little more menace.

I bet it sounds glorious too.

I do. Not stunning but in the right (subdued) spec it's a decent looking car. There is one near me in a dark grey, standard wheels and a half orange interior. It works. Owned by a guy in his late-60s, he had a Ghost previously.

That said, not a fan of this one.


I never understand the hatred for these things, especially clichéd BS like wedding convoy/rented lambo comments, I can only put it down to the Brit issue with success.

I like them - of course colour dependent - but I do like them in say a mid blue metallic with chrome or the black version in say grey. They are not for me - if I had the cash I would be after a more traditional car especially the Phantom if my lottery win was big enough, but I think they are better than the Bentley, though many would argue this is not a high bar.

And that bizarre story from Australia somehow fits with it being a Rolls, it sort of is an extraordinary car so I kind of get strange things happen around them, a bit like the original Merc 600. I mean it somehow wouldn't fit if she drove a Kia!
