Novitec launches 706hp Rolls-Royce Ghost

Series II Black Badge gets the Spofec bodykit treatment and, yes, 'king-sized' wheels

Rolls-Royce might consider the Ghost its junior model, but it’s always been the looker of the bunch - especially in its showier Black Badge costume. Of course, the firm’s sense of restraint has always prevented it from going all-in on the concept of a sportier model, leaving plenty of space for the aftermarket to have a go. Having already seen to the Spectre, Novitec, by way of its Spofec department, has stepped up to the plate again this week and not held back on its ‘exhilarating’ overhaul.

Granted, the 35mm drop onto an in-house-developed suspension kit and its glittering 22-inch Vossen wheels (available in 48 different colours) do stand out on first inspection - but the Spofec is about more than just slamming the Ghost onto big rims. The new bodykit jettisons the standard-fit front bumper completely and introduces much larger air intakes and vertical LED position markers. Clearly, it is meant as an attention-getter.

The sills are different, too (i.e. chunkier), and at the back you get a lip spoiler on the bootlid to go with a new rear bumper, the latter available with or without cutouts based on your choice of exhaust. Presumably, this is because the Ghost is available with two versions of Spofec’s stainless sports exhaust systems, although if you’ve chosen to dip a toe in Novitec waters, you’ll almost certainly want the one that comes with actively controlled butterfly valves.

As the video proves, this delivers the kind of ‘decidedly sporty sound’ that befits a Ghost now outputting 706hp from its 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12. The 106hp improvement is achieved via a plug-and-play N-Tronic performance module, though it’s probably the 739lb ft of torque available from 2,400rpm you’ll notice. Either way, so fettled, the car will get to 62mph in 4.3 seconds. There are interior options, too, though of course, Rolls-Royce has extroverts well covered there. The Spofec is all about what’s on top.

If the wheels were a little less shiny (blingy), that would actually be really nice.

I like it.

Can barely hear the exhaust for all the tyre roar...

Seems an odd thing to want, a brash, noisy RR.

Rolls Royces are brash, you cant have a 5.5 metre long car that expensive that isnt really.

The world has changed, its no longer establishment figures, landed gentry and the upper classes that have Rolls Royces, its sportspeople, musicians, Crypto Bros and a lot of them arent English, so have different tastes, often now a lot younger so there is a market that caters to this. Was always the case, but people like John Lennon and Keith Moon were the exceptions back then, now the traditional customer is probably more the exception.

It looks suitably imposing, like Geoff said, dial down the shininess of the wheels and it would be perfect.

The exhaust note may be hilarious for the first few miles but I think I’d prefer mine standard thanks.

The traditional Rolls customer has now moved to Bentley.

I like it, probably raise it 10-20mm but other than that I’m in.

Lose the bootlid spoiler and I quite like that. Not the spec I'd pick myself but get the appeal!

Can totally see a well-heeled mafia boss rolling up in one of those. The modern equivalent of a 90's W140 on chrome AMG rims, or a mobster's Lincoln Town Car vibes.

Not my thing at all, but it’s the wheel design that shouts out to me, and not in a good way!

I don't dislike it - kind of interesting to have a car that big with an exhaust that loud (I assume it person it is a lot louder than in a video). It looks kind of interesting too.

Is that tyre noise? Was wondering if it was wind noise too, but either way it sounded terrible, made the video seem really amateurish, as if shot on an iPhone. Surprised they'd not turned that down in post production.
