Bit of advice please…

My wife was driving to a friend’s this morning and called me in tears after a lorry seemed to flick up a stone/rock that hit the windscreen directly in her line of vision. It’s left a decent‑sized spiderweb crack. She pulled over initially, then decided to drive home slowly rather than risk continuing the journey.

Our insurance policy directs us to large nationwide 'Auto glass' replacement company, but the earliest replacement date they can offer is the first week of April. The crack has already grown since the first photo she took, so I’m worried the next journey will finish it off—meaning we could effectively be without a usable car for 3+ weeks.

I called the insurer and they said I can try other companies myself and reclaim the cost, but the local companies I’ve tried so far are quoting similar lead times. I phoned the insurer back to ask about a courtesy car, but they confirmed they don’t provide one for windscreen damage.

Just looking for people’s opinions—am I basically stuck without the car for the next few weeks, or does anyone know of a company that can replace windscreens quicker in the Southend / Leigh‑on‑Sea, Essex area?
For info: it’s a Land Rover Defender 90.

cheers

Check your policy closely. Many will limit the amount they will pay out to any non approved fitter, sometimes as low as £100. Be warned!
