Hello,

Goggling copart stories would suggest gg is the place to post.

Long story short is that my insurer has insisted that my car to copart for 'assessment' as currently the computer says its a write off without even discussing the damage (leading edge of the door got dented amd cracked the paint).

If I go with the 'insured value' with the broker, it 8% of the value. If I go with the insurer and coparts suggestion (they dont take into account declared mods, forged engine etc.) And base it on what available around similar mileage to my car, its around 18%

However, everything ive read about copart would suggest its a death kiss going there and theyll write it off...

Or has anyone had any positive experiences going down this route and copart have agreed that its still economical to repair. Its literally just a slight dent and cracked paint.

Yes I could get a replacement door but itll probably be a different shade and need blending etc.

Thanks

Problem is how they treat the car whilst its there, iirc they are moved about via forklifts.
If you buy it back, the common theme is more damage and missing items than when it arrived there.
The assessors they employ are straight in the the job with no previous experience.

If you still have the car in your possession I would do everything I could to keep it out of there.
Cars have been put up for auction that had only been sent there to be assessed. if your idea is to see what they say and maybe not go along with the claim, be aware your car wont be treated well there.

Why not talk to the insurer and take it to your own choice of bodyshop to get a price?

Our S-Max was damaged while we were on holiday. Copart kept calling saying they were coming to my house to collect it - I kept telling them not to as it wasn't there! I was then told it would be written off and was offered £7k, or about £5k if it was written off and I kept it.

After talking to the insurer I had it repaired by a local dent guy for c. £1k which the insurer paid direct. He fixed it in a day so there was no need for a hire / loan car and inconvenience was minimal and it kept everyone's costs right down.

I was very glad that it never got in to the hands of Copart.

Ive spoken to the broker, axa and copart but on my 3rd time of calling the broker, hes going to call axa to reason with them and see if he can get them to budge on their stance.

Or try and figure out what id be offered as its a niche jap import in blue with mods

Edit - just spoke to the insurer after the broker had spoken to them and theyve relented and are going to allow me to use a body shop of my choice or one of their approved ones and its not going near copart.
