Remember when cup holders weren t a thing?

I’m driving an older vehicle today & was totally bewildered not to find a cup holder for my coffee.
(I did find one eventually but there is only one in reach of the driver)
It reminded me of a time (I think the 90’s) when top gear et al included number of cup holders in their reviews (possibly even in printed stats in the back of magazines if you recall them?). I was convinced at the time this was a piss take, I wanted to here 0-60 times not how many cup holders a vehicle had
I grew up in an era when the only thing consumed in a car were travel sweets - maybe occasionally an opal fruit. Water came from the tap not a bottle when you’d stopped, cup holders were completely alien to me but now having without seems unthinkable (except to my Old man who still has the “nothing consumed in his vehicles” belief)
