After my 4 hour journey jnct 17 to 16 on the M6 yesterday I looked at Zip merging and realised that my opinion of the tossers overtaking in lanes 3 and 4, was wrong according to the highway code.
Well I`m glad that each one who overtook and cut in further along pushed those of us in inside further back in the queue.
Just a whinge.

So you mean that you don't understand the Highway Code and you're bitter because other people used their better knowledge of said book to facilitate their quicker and easier negotiation of the restrictions ahead?Well I`m glad that each one who overtook and cut in further along pushed those of us in inside further back in the queue.

It's not a queue though is it? It's lanes approaching a narrowing point, and zip merging means traffic flows through that point rather than everyone stop-starting. Also, because more road space is being used up until the narrowing point, the length of the overall tailback is less.
If the point of your post is that you disagree with the highway code that's fine. However, at root you've made the decision to become part of a queue when you didn't have to, so those drivers that went with a zip merge approach aren't queue jumpers.

It s probably a good idea to read the whole Highway code again from time to time.Well I`m glad that each one who overtook and cut in further along pushed those of us in inside further back in the queue.

Other things you may not be aware of include that you should drive in the left-hand lane unless overtaking, that a red X above a lane on the motorway indicates that that lane is closed, that you should not use your horn when stationary and that fog lights are only to be used in restricted visibility.

There's a long running moan about the A66 and zipping at the area where 2 lanes go into one.
Zipping works fine except where the actual volume of traffic going into the single lane exceeds the capacity of that lane and everyone then comes to a halt. You then get a sort of "after you Claude" from some and "not before me" from others and the ones who forget to engage first gear (or brain).

Each open lane is a separate queue, up until the merge point, where everyone merges in turn at the restriction.Well I`m glad that each one who overtook and cut in further along pushed those of us in inside further back in the queue.

It sounds like you chose to join a longer queue, while drivers in lanes 3 & 4 chose the shorter queues.
That begs the question, why did you not choose one of the shorter queues yourself?
