Hi all , not sure if best forum .
Need to get my 21 year old son insured for a couple of days on my car .
Nothing special 7 year old Guilia Quad
He has to pick up a couple of important people and his fairly old Fiesta isnt up to job
I’ve tried all places I can think with no joy .
Wondered if any friendly brokers on here
4 years no claims
TIA

Will your own insurance not include him as an additional driver? I'm sure that would be the most cost-effective option.

^^^ Is generally the first (and often only) answer.

I do this occasionally for my neighbour. Costs me about £15 a day.

He may not be okd enough to easily insure on QF. You basically have your own insurers or the day ones.

A broker isn't going to be able to help for a few days cover.

A - there's not enough premium in it so there's not enough commission for the time taken to arrange.

B - the market for ad hoc days is all online

What have your insurer said?

I like the way you say a car with 500+ bhp is nothing special. Add a 21 year old driver into the mix and it's not surprising you are having trouble getting anyone to provide cover.

Does his own insurance give him cover for driving other cars albeit maybe third party cover only. That might be the best you can do and trust him not to write it off for you.

Have just got a new vrs octavia - and a child who's just passed their test...we looked at quotes for a laugh. My insurance company won't add anyone under 25 to ANY car, and tempcover / similar were a vague no due to car / age of driver / phase of moon etc

They're weren't going to be driving it anyway...but now I know it's just not an option for them for a few years.

With a 500hp car, I can see the same being true for you I'm afraid.

Try CUVVA,

But I doubt they could offer cover for the vehicle in question

This usually only applies to other cars not owned by a family member

It looks like Enterprise (and probably others) will rent to 21 year olds, so that may be the most practical and cost effective route to avoid him turning up in a dodgy old car.

I suspect many people might be a bit dubious about a 21 year old turning up in a high performance car anyway…

No, it usually covers cars not owned by the policyholder. Very occasionally it excludes family members cars. But it's not usually given to policyholders under 25.

Hire car was poss but cost prohibitive/not worth it
So he’ll be driving to Silverstone in his (clean) Fiesta !
