I don't know why he bothered making up the acetylene story.

What you're looking at is clearly the result of just using a BMW 3 series in the snow without Winter Tyres.

That looks like very minor damage for an acetylene cylinder explosion; it must have been a very small, very empty cylinder.

Generally, there isn't a great deal of risk with transporting cylinders, as long as they are properly secured so they can't bounce around, and nothing else heavy can bash into them.

But if they're not...

Err, that was an E46 saloon. The back end has been blown off, so I guess it's a "compact" now!
