A thread popped up today suggesting you could buy six used Ferrari models for the same price as a Luce.

This got me thinking, I’d rather buy one amazing car with the money than 6 really nice cars.

What one car would you buy with half a million?
One car, no change given.

I’d be tempted to get this Bentley S1 Fastback:

It's in the best colour for Ferraris and it had a more futuristic look than its predecessors so seems like a good comparison to what they tried but failed to do with the Luce. If I can go slightly over budget and add a second car I would have that plus a Nissan Leaf for daily use for a two car "Luce but better" garage.

I think most of the stuff I like isn't even close to half a million.

I'd probably get a blower Bentley or a really well refurbished XJ220.

XJ220 …that’s a great suggestion. It was my first dream car.

Ferrari 458 Speciale. There is one in budget on AT so that'll do.

Would probably stick with modern a option rather than a classic.

Black & tan works for me.

Been as there's no 430 Scuderia's on AT or PH, I'd go for a 488 Pista. Although there's a few 296 Speciale's for £500k.

One of these, not as good at lugging a family around as a Luce would be, or as practical.

Any other Ferrari (and a BYD or a Xiaomi electric thing if you have the need/desire for a fast electric thing).

The Luce is like Rolex trying to enter the smartwatch market. Seriously though - only one 'prestige' watch brand has made a serious effort to enter the smartwatch sector (TAG Heuer) and it hasn't been a great success.

Jeez, did not realise CS's were quite that much money - last time I looked you could get a nice one for £200k and a really nice one for £250k.
