New Huayra 70 Anima concludes Pagani 70 trio

You might have forgotten about the Huayra after 15 years - Pagani Grandi Complicazioni certainly hasn't...

What a Mastermind specialist subject the works of Pagani Automobili would be. So many cars, so many specifications, so many V12s. And they aren’t done yet: the Huayra may have been reviewed on PH back when London 2012 was happening, but it’s still being evolved and improved. This is the Huayra 70 Anima, the final car from a three-unit run of specials built by Pagani Grandi Complicazioni. Like an M&S hypercar, the Huayra 70 project isn’t just any hypercar: Grandi Complicazioni Paganis are ‘an expression of the Atelier’s ability to bring highly ambitious ideas to life through an extraordinary level of personalisation, craftsmanship and technical development.’ It’s for the cars and buyers that want something ‘beyond conventional customisation.’ Yikes.

So an Anima is unlike any Huayra you’ve seen before, even after hundreds of them. Diamond dust in the Azzurro Metallizzato Custom and Blu Inchiostrato Custom paint for ‘unique luminosity’? Check. Solid milled aluminum component with a silver anodized finish? You got it. Chrome brake calipers? Why not. Argentina Light Blue chassis tie rods? As if you have to ask. Even by Pagani standards, this trio of 70s - the Anima has just been revealed, there’s also been a Trionfo and Derecho - are something else again.

Probably the most recognisable part of the package is underneath, the familiar twin-turbo, 6.0-litre AMG V12 still driving the rear wheels with 864hp and 811lb ft. There’s loadsa carbon to keep the weight low, ceramic brakes, Trofeo Rs, an Xtrac manual box - you know the score. Should the Anima client wish to, there’s 217mph potential.

More interesting for them will be the interior, with beige leather, carbon trim matched to the Inky Blue paint, more diamond dust (imagine speccing an exotic without diamond dust), plus the flags of both Las Vegas and Argentina. Again, just when you thought we’d seen it all from Pagani, along comes Loro Piana fabric and milk coloured leather.

Horacio Pagani said: “Our mission is to continue seeking perfection in every single detail, finding that essential harmony between form and function, intellect and craftsmanship. Bringing the world premiere of the Anima and the complete Huayra 70 trio to the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas means celebrating this tireless pursuit alongside those who share our profound passion for automotive design.”

So they’re not done yet, it would seem. And where once keeping a plain old V12 might have looked a tad too traditional, now the renewed appetite for combustion will surely stand Pagani in pretty good stead. Why replace what’s still in demand? And if a Zonda is still the only Pagani for you, classifieds to the rescue...

Pagani used to be the epitome of peak excellence, style and performance.

Now it just looks classless and gaudy!

Jesus wept. That is a sin. Pagani truly peaked at the Zonda F and Cinque.

Stunning inside but the exterior looks over done.

With blue being my favorite color...I hated this car. Not any Huayra, just this one.

It’s going to be very expensive, it is quite gaudy, but I love it - Pagani are to be celebrated for making outrageous cars.

I visited their factory a few years ago, there aren’t that many people working there, but the level of skills they employ as well as the attention to the smallest details is incredible and fantastic to see.

Looks a bit OTT in the pictures, but this is the sort of car that if you saw it on the road, I'm sure it would look amazing. It also gets the front end that the Huayra should have had from the outset. Find a picture of the original Huayra and you'll see what I mean. I think even Horacio Pagani himself knew it didn't look great as a journalist asked him about it and he said 'the air wants to to where the air wants to go' or something along those lines iirc.

This to me is what happens with Italian design and desserts

Unbelievably beautiful and simple or overdone with too much “stuff”

100% this.

I think Pagani are very lucky people keep referencing the brand like it's the pinnacle of creation when they keep churning out gaudy design after gaudy design.

With that level of attention to detail you'd think that it'd have matching beige/milk or blue seatbelts.
