Is it what it looks like (something to prevent thousands of re-directs to YouTube) or something dodgy

It's commonly known as 'Captcha' and is a sequence of letters that you have to type in to verify you are human.

Quite what it's doing in the forum post though, I have no idea.

Perhaps someone has setup an incorrect advertising link or similar.

Is the correct answer. How anyone is still browsing the forum without an ad blocker is beyond me. I reset mine every year and only use Brave for PH.
