I see it was closed anonymously. Is this a return to the faceless mods of the past, who on occasion used their powers to score points?

I think it was more a case of the arguing was going around in circles and getting nowhere.

So what if the thread was closed anonymously? Did you want to vent against a mod who put their name to the closure? I bet it wasn't an individual decision.

Probably right to close it, but it really is better for mods to have the courage of their convictions and leave their name visible. Helps keep the place feeling human.

No desire to vent against anyone, I've no skin in that particular thread.

I'd thought the issue of the secret mods had been sorted years ago. Maybe not, hence the question.

No, I too have no interest or contribution to that thread. I also have no greater knowledge than you.

I just applied some common sense that the mods here do a thankless task and it's an emotive subject. Couple that with large numbers of seemingly nutters that frequent this forum, I don't think I'd want my name there either. I left PH (apart from reading) about 20 years ago because of a stalker. Traced me far enough to leave notes on my car. I deleted everything and didn't participate until last year.

Appreciate that, but all sorts of subjects are emotive and sensitive.

I find the concept of anonymous and unaccountable moderation a little uncomfortable. Power without account invites corruption in any arena.

Having moderated a relatively high profile system in the past, I appreciate sometimes incredible over reactions and stupidity some exhibit. Thankless indeed. A cloak of anonymity is unhelpful, though.

As Jordie suspected, the decision to close that thread was not made by an individual.

I am not sure why the mod who closed the thread did so anonymously, I see no reason why they would so I suspect they may have hit the “anonymous” box in error.

I hope this answers your queries, but I will close this thread now as the decision to close the transgender sport thread has been made.
