NP&E needs revisiting

On 25th of June I posted a thread here about access to NP&E

As previously mentioned I have been posting here for more than 18 years. I have diligently visited the site and posted high quality answers on threads that I feel I can add something to since posting that thread: I am now up to 937 posts.

I have worked for most of the last 20 years as a professional captain on large luxury sailing yachts. There are only a handful of us on this site that can meaningfully add anything to the Mike Lynch missing after yacht sinks thread and I would definitely be one of them.

I am literally being asked to post:



And yet I cannot post because of your arbitrary rules.

Look at my post history. I am not an agitator or stirrer.

Please can you do something about this

That's a long way off, unless I'm prepared to write a load of meaningless drivel, particularly when I can't post about current affairs.

you could always start a new thread and the mods will bang it into the existing (ok, it doesn't help that you can't respond further to questions but still....)

1 answer about someone needing info on a car I know about
2 answers on non current affairs fora

= 7 answers per week.

Even if I keep that rate up I'll not be posting in N,P&E until mid May 2025.

The strength of fast moving current affairs discussions is the ability to add informed well connected detail to stories in real time. Some of the value is lost if posted days later. Hence me trying to get a mod to do something about it this afternoon...

I'll not post too much more here in case this is seen as taking the p*ss.

Reading the closed thread there are plenty of excellent answers for why 1000 posts AND 1 year is a crazy hurdle.

I do agree that it's a blunt instrument but IME there's no logic to the way PH is policed at all.

The N,P&E posting rules have been a success in raising the quality of the contributions to that forum and are here to stay.

They won't suit everyone, but as in many walks of life there are often limitations put in place because of the actions of a minority.
