Would be great, don't see why there isn't one already.

Given the absolute mess that the old "themes" were (they were nothing of the sort and were completely separate codebases, BTW) and the months of disruption that followed them trying to unify them and settling on this one, and that there are bugs that have been open ever since then (and it was years ago now), I wouldn't hold your breath.

PH can barely manage the forums as they are now, never mind another theme like that.

OP . . . I use a dark mode extension with desktop Opera browser. Small button to press but it reduces the stress on my eyes big time!

Yup. The forum code simply doesn't support themes. I can't see it happening.

How do you know? Then they can add some code in surely? Cannot be that difficult?

Well maybe it is . . . what do I know. smile

Every post I make shows as a darker blue on my screen and not the alternating pale blue /grey, slightly darker blue /grey background, so it makes my posts stand out a bit for me.

Is this the same for everybody?

You could probably do this yourself with stylebot or similar if the devs aren't interested.

Yes this is normal. Also particularly jarring when you're scrolling through a thread to see something you posted 5 years ago. biggrin

I am disappointed now, I thought I was a special case and it was so everyone else could see my stand out posts hehe

As for scrolling back, I often surprise myself with the things I have posted and can honestly say much of it I have no recollection of after the event eek

I strongly suspect that are are no devs and that the last round of changes were done by a freelancer or someone on a fixed term contract.

This will probably work on any browser, seeing as they are all based on Chromium

type:

MS Edge edge://flags
Chrome chrome://flags
Brave brave://flags

Search for dark mode and set it.

Not tested it on any others, but I assume it will work

the software on here is at least 150 years old, many basic things missing for 2011 let alone 2021. But PH is ran by a marketing company now who only want to see monetary returns on their products, not any hobbyist love going on in here. I'll be surprised if they have even a single developer on their payroll

Worked for me, looks heaps better, not to work out how to do it on a site by site basis (word to the wise, when posting you will lose the ability to see preview and submit font on the buttons)

We don't have a dark mode and this isn't something we're planning on I'm afraid. We simplified the forum skins to make it much easier for us to maintain the forums with a single theme.

As others have mentioned some browsers may offer dark mode solutions that you could try.

It was the right choice, as it became clear that they weren't skins at all but completely different code for each one, each with its own bugs and quirks. A maintenance nightmare that was completely unsustainable.

It's a shame that there has been no further bug fixing since that point - garage BBCode formatting is still broken and has been for years. Auto-thumbnail of quoted pictures still makes small pics bigger rather than having an "only shrink; don't grow" guard, etc etc.

If it helps. I have no idea what any of this thread means. Seriously!

Yes I'm thick. But does it also mean that parts of the forums are not so friendly to some of us?
