The Whatcar? banner advert.

It's pissing me off.

I'm using PH classic and Firefox 4, when I try to use the dropdown menus, the menu (and the banner) disappears when I hover over it. I don't mind the banner disappearing, but the menus going are a bit more of a pain.

Also, I'm an enthusiast FFS, Whatcar? does not cater for me!

I can't, something went a litle wrong with my PC many years ago and when I try to paste screenshots it always says something like it's unable to take data from the clipboard... maybe you could help with that too? ;

Sorry, I've just seen a third Whatcar? banner, it's the one with the "find it, research it, buy it" tagline.

I'll try, but that might be a bit involved...

Just do these steps exactly for me.

1. Hit Print Screen button on the keyboard
2. Open up Paint (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Paint)
3. Edit -> Paste

Can you get that far at least? Or is that what you're trying to do already?

Right, I don't know what the hell the difference is but for some reason MS Paint allows me to do that... Screenshots coming.

I should explain... the banner ads are dynamic and are based on where you browse on the internet. It's meant to be targeted and personalised for you, but I don't think they're necessarily doing what they intend. I mostly get ads for a contacts website, even though I don't wear contacts.

But what I'm getting at is, I don't get any Whatcar? ads because the ads are meant to be different between users. So that's why I need a screen shot.

In the first pic, the cursor is hovering to the left of "My Info".
Second pic, on "My Info".
Third pic, hovering on "Contributions", or at least where it should be, the banner and the dropdown menu both vanish.

Ok, I've been able to replicate it myself. Geez, that is annoying.

Fortunately, it is only the one Whatcar? advert out of the 5 or so they're running. I'll forward on these details to our ads team who will hopefully sort out this one troublesome ad.

It may be a Firefox 4 thing - I'm told it has introduced some interesting new standards - as all browser developments seem to do.

Installed adblock myself a few weeks ago after a similar experience on another site - I have an inckling that may also have been a what car thing but maybe not. I'm also using Firefox 4.

It was on my Android phone as I use the main site rather than the mobile site

I have now switched to Big Blue to solve the problem but its not ideal as BB isnt as office friendly as classic

Getting very annoyed now, I tend to use 'Contributions' in the drop down to navigate the forums, and I can't. I'm not inclined to buy the wares of annoying advertisers.
