Rightly or wrongly I have been banned from the Noble forum for expressing my views against the new M600 the topic being "Evo Mag". Not knowing I had been banned I tried to post a reply and this message comes up "Please go and stand in the corner until you've learned to play nicely with the other children. You will not be allowed back into this forum until the teacher calls you" This I find quite condescending has anyone else on here been banned from a forum and if so is that the message you got?
After some investigation we can confirm that this message is system generated and is seen by anyone 'lucky' enough to receive a forum ban. It's been live for approximately 8 months so I'm sure many of you have seen it before.
Condescending? Not really? Just our attempt at light-hearted telling off. Apologies for any offence caused
Glad that's sorted, we had to look back ourselves as we'd forgotten it was automated and the mod thought he was going mad! Once again it's meant as a bit of fun, I hope most will take it that way.

Yep. Lifetime ban from SP&L in January 2010. Despite me not breaking any forum rules (or none that anyone has told me about). Been waiting since August last year for Garlick / Stuart to get back to me as promised with a proper explaination as to exactly which rules they think I have broken, if for no other reason than it would allow me to avoid breaking them again.
Of course, the fact that I was banned within about 3 hours of me making a mod report about personal abuse to me on a forum was, I'm sure, completely coincidental.

I'm not trying to provoke a reaction, I just didn't realise that I had missed an email. Can I ask why you didn't just email one of us again to remind us instead of looking for support in here? I'm sure you would have gained a response far faster.
You know where I am, but IIRC it was a colleague of mine who has the answers.

TBH, it is condescending. I appreciate the difficulties of trying to moderate a popular forum. Getting consistency, when so many moderators are involved, is impossible. This makes it difficult for posters to know what the rules are.
For example, I have no idea what the rules are for posting in the "Climate Change - the Scientific Debate" thread are. The old thread, which got closed down, was very popular indeed. The new thread has very few contributions. I don't post in it because I am not a qualified scientist - and I am worried that I might break the "rules". I suspect that many other contributors are staying away for the same reasons that I am. It doesn't help the forum, does it?

I did do as you suggested, but my emails to you of 7 September and 14 October elicited no response. Not sure what else I could have done really, short of posting here much sooner. I'm not embarrassed, but thanks for checking. Much water have passed since then, or do we need to go over it again? If it's the latter, try email as suggested and we'll look at it. We are rather busy, but do aim to answer emails where possible.
As for the automated comment being condescending, I disagree. We expect a level of understanding and common sense on PH, if you break that trust then we treat you accordingly. 99% of people will not see this message, those that do have broken our rules and are banned. The email you receive will tell you that you are banned, if you then attempt to log in, the automated message will remind you of your previous silly actions. Play by the rules and you never see the message. What's that phrase? You make a rod for your own back?

Frankly, experience has led me to believe that this is one of those “if ignore it for long enough, it will go way” situations. I’ve not modified the way I express my views, because I have not broken any rules that I have been told about. I was attempting to be proactive, but if the reactive approach is preferred, there’s nothing much I can do about that. The entire purpose of this was an attempt to ensure that I stay within your rules, nothing more. I accept that this quest for understanding has failed, and that the matter is now closed.
