Commercial YouTube links

Chaps,

Just a quick sanity check, in a thread in the Ferrari forum, one of the frequent posters in the supercars spotted thread, stated that he earned £3-4k per month from YouTube for views of his channel . . . . . now my point is this, a number of users have been simply posting links to their YouTube channels, few if any photos and nothing that adds anything to the threads.
Am I just being a bit oversensitive that these posts are commercially motivated? . . . .If I am, any objections to me simply linking to commercial bits of my own website whenever anybody wants any information on restoring or running crusty Enzo era Ferraris

In which case you may want to check out Shmee's "I make between £3000 and £4000 a month from youtube" posts in the Ferrari section thread on an Iraqi 599 driver and tie it in with the "I dont have any pics, but heres a link to my youtube" posts in the "supercars spotted, some rarities" thread in GG

It's a pity really as some of the posts are interesting, but it's getting a tad boring when the only things some people spot, are only available on youtube

I started posting photos and videos on here years ago, long before I even earned a single penny from anything to do with it and even still I post far more pictures and only videos when they are relevant and interesting; my own as well as other people's whether I know them in person or not. I certainly thought that people appreciated the result of my hobby and the feedback in general is hugely positive. If you find a link without a picture then I apologise, I don't think I've done it but if I ever have then it's the exception.

I can certainly attribute the reason I do it purely down to the positive reactions from Pistonheads members and until now the huge appreciation shown.

AndrewW-G, I don't understand you but I do know that you epitomise the problems with this countries attitudes towards other's successes.

P.S. You have hit a nerve, I pity anybody that has the misfortune in life to meet you and hope I never do. Also, can you next time get your facts right and stop writing absolute rubbish everywhere. (See the post above this one - not one thing you've written is true)

Shmee, are you really denying your posts of a week or so ago, where you stated how many hits your you tube channel generated and the advertising revenue arising from it . . . I’ll give you a little reminder, you also stated that it would hopefully be paying for an Aston Martin DBS for you, would you like me to post links to the threads in question?

Your website states very clearly that shmee150.co.uk derives its income from advertising as a result of your youtube channel.

Driving traffic to your site from here may not have been your initial objective, but your statement would suggest that it is now.

I sought the opinion of the moderatos of this site on this matter and it would seem from the post above, that the commercial aspect of some posts is not within the T&C’s, if they tell me that posting links to revenue generating sites or sub sites is OK, then I will happily apologise.

I'm not denying anything, you just need to learn to read. A little hint, I already have a V8 Vantage so the trade up isn't huge to a DBS, then you also don't know that I run an eBay business, work in an Investment Consultancy (therefore have a good salary) and have other income streams. I wrote the line about the DBS that doing all of this work in car journalism sort of feels like it justifies buying an even more special car so we'll see later in the year.

Also, I would very much like you to find exactly where I stated any specific amounts other than saying that it does earn money. All of your figures have not come from me but speculation from other members.

I've been talking a bit to Mr Garlick about how we can combine things, but that's absolutely none of your business and if we arrange something you'll know about it in due course.

For reference, if you aren't this nasty piece of work you pretend not to be then you're doing a spectacularly bad at not seeming to be - you certainly seem like King of the Keyboard Warriors. I never replied to your e-mail because most of the points you made are factually inaccurate so go and check on them.

For somebody who suggests that others learn to read and claims to be a journalist, your command of the English language is truly appalling.

I'd suggest that all of your bluster and bullst is simply your way of deflecting any criticism of your activities.
A tactic you previously used when people were criticising you and the other idiots who run around London encouraging tourists to drive irresponsibly.
Your lack of understanding why the widespread promotion of such stupid behaviour will have a negative impact on everybody else is seemingly symptomatic of your self centred approach to life.

As per my previous posts, if the moderators state that linking to revenue generating sites is OK, then it's OK for everybody and every site, irrespective of any relative merits that link may have.
