I was curious to find out if this forum is any more tightly-moderated than other areas of PH. The reason I ask is because there are a lot of interesting topics in there but they seem to get derailed quite rapidly by people posting puerile crap.

Given that PH actively encourage people to use the report button, I have sometimes reported things I have felt are offensive but there's never any feedback on any moderation which might occur so it's impossible to know if it's worth reporting anything or if reporters are simply perceived as whingers.

I think it's the nature of that type of forum, but I can assure you that anything reported gets looked at immediately by a moderator.

Would you feel comfortable giving examples?

I'm a regular NPE poster and I'm rarely offended. I hope I'm not someone that has offended you btw.

By its nature it's going to be more robust/opinionated than some other parts of PH but I would say its capacity to offend was pretty low compared to the Lounge at its worst.

Perhaps 'offend' is the wrong word. It's not so much that I personally am offended, more that some of the things that get posted are either go against the rules of the site in terms of 'offensive material' or are inappropriate in the context of the thread. I don't think specific examples are helpful as I don't want it to come across as an attack on individual members, but a hypothetical example would be perhaps where civil liberties are being discussed and someone says 'that Shami Chakrabati is a dog, I wouldn't touch her with yours'. Or they descend to playground levels, i.e 'You're a tt', 'No, YOU'RE a tt' etc.

Obviously, things like this can be reported, but firstly one runs the risk of being perceived as a serial complainer by the moderation team and secondly there's rarely any visibility or feedback of moderation which takes place over these type of posts.

I'm not entirely certain what I'm suggesting, just querying how that area is moderated, I suppose.
