Is this ad a scam?

I've seen several of these now and reported them to PH, but never had any feedback. The cars are always under priced with the same message that they cannot be contacted through PH, but private email only.

It does not look like a scam to me fair photos reasonable ad.

Try PM ing as other have suggested.

Caveat Emptor at all times but an email should be OK. Look out for any suggestion of transfers particularly Western Union.

Any time they try to bypass the site's contact system it screams "SCAMMY THE SCAMSTER IS SCAMMING" to me.

I've no intention of buying the vehicle - I've noticed this particular "woman" advertising a few vehicles on here in the same way. To be honest, I'm not really sure why they are being allowed if they're a scam.

I'm not questioning whether it's a scam or not. However why does getting people to contact them directly rather than via the PH message option give the scammer any advantage? They are just as untraceable using a PH account.

They commonly use a hijacked account. By bypassing site communications, the account owner isn't alerted to the scam & hijack. This is why you MUST report any suspected scam ad. so that PH can not only deal with the ad. but check for account hijacking.

Bypassing site comms. also means that any copies of emails/PMs which the site might have held are eliminated and thus not available as evidence.

That is 100% a scammer. DO NOT buy any vehicle on PistonHeads where they insist you contact them outside of PH. The reason they have text in the photos is because we've blocked those phrases from the classifieds. I'll be rejecting that ad right now.



I cannot stress enough... these adverts with text in the images or they claim to not be able to receive your messages through PistonHeads, are scams.




If you see them, flag them up so we can remove them as quickly as possible.

Yeah, I saw the link you posted. But you said there are plenty of them.

The best advice is that if you see a suspect ad then report it via the 'Report' link on the ad. That way it will get picked up correctly.
