Can someone please explain what problems or shortcomings (perceived or real) with the old classifieds that this new version is intended to solve?
It's dreadful! Slow, complicated, clunky, smaller pictures, less information, Gaaah!!
Is the new version simply a 'solution' looking for a problem?
What was the motivation?
(I'll concede that some of the issues may be due to my system in work, so maybe I should reserve judgement until I get home, but initial impressions are not good at all)

The old search facilities were a joke - no means of specifying whether you were looking for manual or auto, diesel or petrol. There was no way to filter out certain mileages or colours, no way to select engine size, etc, etc.While there will be teething problems with the new format, in the long run it can only be an improvement on the predecessor.
Modern search works like this:
1. Search for keyword
2. Filter results based on valid options
In other words, you type in "mercedes" and you see all the mercs, with a series of filters for age, model, mileage and so forth. You won't be offered, for instance, the choice of "single deck" body style. It's called faceted browsing, or guided navigation.

OK maybe it's a new approach that I'll have to get used to, but it's terribly slow and my 1st thought was "oh feck they've Autotrader'd it!"1. Search for keyword

Having just had a quick look, I must say I'm not impressed so far.
The old system whereby you'd click on the make and have the list of updated models for sale was easy to use and made life simple
The new system which brings everything up at once is not very nice, nor is the fact that presumably you have to click loads of buttons to refine search options.
As stated above, this does seem to made things worse rather than better :-(

Consider that there's probably a massive spike in traffic too as everyone's checking it out and exploring the features etc. It's brand new, give it some time to settle and get used to it before jumping on your guns
I rather like it, beats having a bunch of badly organised links strewn down a page.

Well, popped my virtual head inside, tried doing what I normally do in there, found I couldn't and came back out again frustrated 
Should say that I like the look of the rest of the site (and change is often a good thing), and I like the way the photos do their thing in the classified and am sure other bits will become useful as time / useage progress. I just liked being able to click on the makers name and seeing the list of models with the times when last updated so you knew whether or not to bother looking to see if any more adverts placed since last looked. All the filters / looking at multi-makes etc are 'a good thing' (well, probably anyway
) I just liked being able to see, instantly, when a particular section had been updated

+1 I think this will bed in nicely, give them some time - the folk at PH towers must have been thinking long and hard about this. Forums | Website Feedback | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
