It's already been talked about. There are plans for an app but it's quite low on the list of things, that PH towers want to do.

As for a mobile app, until it happens, use mobile site & add an icon to home screen.

Building an app would be madness. Implementing some responsive design would produce something that works on iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, desktop... all from the same code.

I was with our mobile agency today, and we are rebuilding the mobile site very soon (should be live early in February, all being well, but we'll see). The plan is to build a web app utilising HTML5 and CSS3 to deliver a much nicer design for mobile. That'd also give us the option of iOS/Android apps very easily. I would think that in the first instance we'll probably go down the FT.com route though - just building a very nice mobile web experience.

iPad will more than likely get a bespoke skin at around the same time, but I agree that the existing site works well on it anyway, so we'd give people plenty of escape routes from the mobile site and it really won't be much different to the current site. It'd just mean being able to use native controls where we can.

Yes, the current one works pretty well. The new classified site, and specifically the search filters, would work better with use of native controls though.
