referral links - looking for a Mod response

What are the rules on posting referral links?
I've seen countless posts with blatant referral links for Octopus Energy.
I posted one single referral link for my car insurance, clearly stating that I benefit from it but with a lengthy piece on the insurance and also why it might not suit you.
Not my business/company etc. I'm just a customer and like all customers (similar to Octopus) I get to share a referral fee for anybody else that joins. Not a ponzi scheme.
Nor was what I wrote an advertisement. I don't get paid for writing it, nor do I get paid for anybody who reads it. Thought it might benefit some people.
The link was removed. Reference to the company name was removed.
Would be good to get the rationale from the Mod that removed it.
