I know this has been covered previously as I found it from a google search. Thing is I still can’t manage to find out what to do about it so would appreciate any help please?

I’ve been a member since December last year and have made around 150 posts. However, I still get the message, “Forum not accepting posts from new members due to abuse earlier that day” if I try to post after around 9pm. Unfortunately evening is when I am usually available and would like to comment on threads.

Is there anything I need to do with my account or does it need to be sorted by a moderator?

Thanks

Chris

Your profile settings should have allowed you to post in the evenings.
I have reset your status in the hope this sorts it out but if it doesn’t post back here and hopefully one of the techies can take a look.

When does being a "new member" usually end? I have also run into this issue, including not being able to post in my own threads, although to be fair I am actually a new member.

I think it's a stupid rule. But there we are.

There is a 14 day restriction for new members, after which time the restriction should automatically be lifted.

The posting restriction to the hours between 9am to 9pm is in place to prevent spammers joining and attacking the forum during the time when there are fewer moderators around.

The unfortunate result is that it prevents genuine PHers posting, it would be great to have a more streamlined process for new members.

My thoughts on this are, as the owner of a good sized forum that I have run for over ten years.

- We have moderators who are online at all times, community moderator, not just during office hours.
- During the small hours, while there will be less moderators online, their is also far less members online,so the risk is no greater.
- The software we run is I am sure far more sophisticated* that of which PH is currently running which I am sure helps.

  • Our software a significant number of automated options and services for both detecting new spam members joining, and new spam content being posted. It has links to central databases of known trends/patterns/attacks a little like virus definitions, it automatically prune posts/users which read present thresholds for automatic intervention, such as mass registrations and posts. I don't think the PH registration form even has a reCaptcha on it!
We do have restrictions on members with less than ten posts, but they are suitable non-invasive few even realise they exist!
