Getting sort of “half logged out”, constantly...

I’m not sure how best to describe this issue, so I’ll try with some photos.
What happens is that after browsing for a bit, the forum screens “lose” the blue highlighted bits at the top, so the screen looks like this:
Rather than this:
I have my “posts per page” set to 80, but when the forum switches itself to the first view, it reverts to 20 posts per page. I’m using Safari on an iPad (on the most recent iteration of iPadOS). The workaround I’ve found is to go My Stuff > Select a topic I’ve contributed to, which then returns me to my default settings. If I’m looking at a forum/topic page I’ve not contributed to, or not for a while, this is t an option. Then I have to do the “my stuff” thing, then click on Gassing Station and navigate back to where I was.
What am I doing wrong?
