Ignore feature much needed
Discussion
Most quality forums have a ‘Ignore’ feature so that you can block all posts from undesirables.
I am mostly on the Aston forum that for the most part has great members. That being said, there are a few insulting blowhards, one with over 44K posts, that can ruin any quality thread with their toxic behavior.
Thanking you in advance.

As always, report any posts you find upsetting so the mods can ignore you.

It's been discussed many times before and it's not a feature that PH feels is required.
Unlike the Scottish referendum, it is a subject that requires regular discussion though. As Twitter (and other social media) gets more toxic by the month, I personally feel that PH needs to take into account the changing attitudes and forum etiquette. This isn't the first topic like this this week in WF, so it's not like it isn't felt to be a problem by the members.
Trolling and "pile ons" do seem to be more and more popular. There are more and more cliques being formed by certain members where various issues are pushed. I think I could highlight misinformation in every single Covid related thread on Pistonheads.
Facebook and Twitter are at least (for all their faults) attempting to tackle the problem, what is PH doing about it?
It's all very well essentially putting the responsibility on us members to flag up anything for the mods to look at but I think a lot of us simply can't be bothered as there's so much of it to report.
A simple ignore button would solve most of the issues that stem from a certain minority and their duplicate accounts.
Perhaps a poll would establish the level of feeling on this? Would PH (re)consider if the result were overwhelmingly in favour of?
Not meaning to mod-bash, I know that you do occasionally step in but equally with a forum this size and the number of posts per day (a) you can't be forever on top of things and (b) we, the users, can't be reporting every time someone plays up otherwise it would become all-consuming for both groups.
I've been here a long time and it's far far worse than it ever was in the past, to the extent that it discourages me from reading. I very often now don't respond to a thread where I think that even a reasonable response will just bring the idiots out. I can't count the number of times I've typed something and then thought "no, just don't bother" before clicking Submit and deleted it.
For reference, spoken as a former mod of a reasonably-sized and very active marque-specific forum (and yes, we had an Ignore button and yes, we addressed idiot issues!).

You have made 19 reports to the mods in the past 30 days, and 18 of these have led to action by the mods with posts being deleted and/or bans issued.
Doesn't seem to be much in the way of an appeal process when some over-sensitive ninny reports you for some imagined slight and a mod deletes suspends or bans with no comeback available to 'the accused'.
I just got a thread ban with no followup email or response from info@pistonheads.com so I really haven't a clue why I was banned which doesn't help me self-moderate my future conduct, and I strongly suspect I was 'thread-banned in error' as I once was before.
Boo hoo. (feel free to ignore).

I fully agree with CAPPO’s quality response. I find myself not responding even when I know the answer to a fellow members question as it’s just not worth the hassle. I do however try to help them with a PM if they are still not getting the answer they need. As suggested above I’ve been here for longer that 8 minutes. Long time lurker and only decided to join after I actually had the Aston in my garage.
Wishing you all only the best in 2021.

It's a joke about ignoring the OP!
Jeez.
Apology accepted.
Anyhoo, do you believe the reports were not justified?
