Annoying popups
Discussion
Hi PH,
I keep getting polls and other sillyness come as popups. It's bloody annoying. Is there any way to turn them off?
It's the "what brought you to pistonheads today?" "how did you hear about us?" "what colour is the boathouse in Hereford?" that comes over the top of everything and stops you typing in dialogue boxes until you click the x...

Yes, unless you have a large bank of them to get through, I get them every day.
I do browse ph on multiple devices though so if you're doing it per device not per user that could well be it...
Generally we only have one survey running at a time and as per above, should only ever hit each user once although I expect that's per device. You shouldn't be seeing them every day though. Are you using any ad blockers or incognito modes?I do browse ph on multiple devices though so if you're doing it per device not per user that could well be it...

Thanks for reporting. They're set up so they should only ever appear to each user once, so shouldn't be repetitive. Are you seeing them on multiple occasions?
I've seen them a few times too if we are meaning those horrific grey floating banners that spam the screen while you are typing. Usually saying about facebook or something. Also got one on my mobile last night (iPhone/Safari). On there it was pointless as you couldn't even read the thing as it floated just off screen.
Sorry PH, I know the new owners will see the forum as an asset and are trying to leverage it. But some of these ideas just seem ill conceived.

No and no. As much as I don't jump for joy at the banners on here, it's how you pay for the forum we use so in my book it's part of the deal to be served those ads.As per 300/ton though - it all seems a bit pointless. One survey at a time maybe, but all of them are social media related. This is PH, thisis a form of social media, we're already here and I can't imagine the benefit of seeing via facebook, twitter or elsewhere that there's a new PH editorial out, when we're already here anyway! Maybe you're trying to get the PH collective average younger and a bit less middle aged, but honestly show anyone young NP+E and they'll be so gobsmacked they'll be off screaming "gammon" in seconds anyway =)
Thanks all. The social pop up was only running for a couple of days so you won't see that again.
As above the 'how did you find us' survey is the only one running, only targets 1% of users and should only show once per user. If you're having issues with this and not being able to close it, please take screenshots in the future so we can investigate. Thanks!
