Disappearing characters in quotes and edits?

I just quoted someone who had "don't" in the line I quoted, and it changed to "don t". Recently I've also had € disappear when I've edited a post. Is there something weird happening with non alphanumeric numbers?

I know it's bad form to quote myself, but in this instant the apostrophe seems to have remained but the € has disappeared
