Rather than close the thread, why not just discipline the offenders and clean the thread up. There were actually some useful ideas appearing which I'm going to try!

Everyon knows there are two kinds of threads that always get closed on PH.

Threads about cats.
Threads about dogs.

You can start a thread about racists trading goatse encounters for Turkish Delight and paedophilic pictures, but don't ever, ever start a thread about dogs or cats.

As you rightly say, many answers were already given to solve the problem so it had served its purpose and was heading off topic. I didn't mean to offend by closing but it had run its course IMO.

As for the comment about racist and whatever else posts, if you see a problem thread or post then use the report button and we'll look at it straight away.

There are loads of threads about cats and deterring cats each month.
