I've seen it done so it's possible - how to send the same message to several PH accounts?

It would work if the 'Mates' function was enhanced, i.e. adding someone to your 'Mates' requires an acknowledgement/agreement from them.

No reason why you shouldn't be able to spam your mates.

We are looking at ramping up the members section later this year, and thus being able to email your mates is something we are looking into. Though we wouldn't let you email a group without their permission.
