Chaps, can I put forward a suggestion?
In other sporting fora I use, thread topics are quite strictly controlled in order to keep discussion on topic. I would love certain topics to be self-regulating however there is an awful lot of unseemly bickering going on in the F1 race threads.
For example, I'm sure if people want to discuss the relative merits of how Schumacher built the Ferrari team from nothing etc then by all means let them do so... in a thread designed for the purpose. I can't be the only one sick and tired of childish 'fanboys' arguing the toss over this point or that point to the nth degree in the F1 race weekend thread?
Would it be possible to have a forum rule which limits discussion to the thread topic (within reason?) - in this case it would be to issues surrounding the actual race?
I realise it seems a bit draconian for it to be moderated in this way, but perhaps a neutral moderator could be appointed or an existing mod given a poke during race weekend?

It does appear to be a select few. If you try and diffuse the angst between them with a neutral comment laced with (shock horror) facts, they will turn on you.
I think that two threads would ultimately be a bad idea, but, if i could make an observation; it seems to be worse before and after the race. Before you get the ones proclaiming that Hamilton is the second coming, or Ferrari is going to lap every other car. During the race there is alot of good banter, constructive critisism (generally)of the coverage and general racing chit-chat. The real b
hing starts after when certain fans try and 'blow away the smokescreen', or argue 'til they're blue in the face that black is most definitly white. It is at this stage that the thread has run its course and will only go down hill.
Maybe locking the thread half an hour after the red button forum has finished and start (or wait for hundreds to appear like syphillis cases in teens) a thread for the "Aftermath and Analysis of the XXXXXX Grand Prix" Then people would know that the thread would contain 99% dross and 1% reasoned argument and would avoid the problem.

All of these.. (partic deevlash'). I note MB has posted his usual, balanced opinion (am being serious) on here.
A few more like him and the forum would improve immeasurably, as it stands, it's a complete joke.

The existing mods are going to be a bit more active on the F1 threads over the next few weeks. If that doesn't prove sufficient then we'll look at other options.
The current situation has already driven away (no pun intended) a fair few valuable contributors of old.
If I can offer a suggestion based on the latest clusterfk in General Motorsport, if you'll pardon my French. If arfgumentative tossers are not going to be banned from certain threads then can I suggest a third way? That the GP thread gets automatically closed 2 hours after the race?
