Back in the good old days I was able to start a paragraph with [i] and/or [b]

And end the paragraph with [/i] and/or [/b]

These days, I have to do this with every line.

How long ago did this change? It isn't something we have changed recently that's for certain! You can do bold or italic across an entire paragraph regardless of length. i.e.:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus a odio sapien, in aliquam est. Maecenas ac risus sed mauris elementum lacinia vitae sit amet mauris. Maecenas id metus nisi, at pellentesque nibh. Ut eget metus id nibh ornare convallis ac et lorem. Duis at semper velit. Quisque sit amet diam non neque eleifend malesuada eget eget risus. Aliquam semper sapien et nisi sollicitudin dapibus condimentum ipsum placerat. Mauris vitae justo ut neque sagittis lacinia eu in ante. Morbi lacinia metus sit amet tortor aliquet mollis. Aenean eu orci purus. Suspendisse vel leo in sem placerat placerat non et ipsum. Curabitur sit amet tellus lacus, at rhoncus mi.

It will only stop working across line-breaks, but (serious question) how often do you find yourself wanting to post several paragraphs with formatting applied?

A long time ago, pre-electricity, I think...

Yes, I see...I do use line breaks rather a lot. Makes for easier reading sometimes.

I have, occasionally, copied a block of text, in which I wanted to highlight two or three consecutive paragraphs.
