slower than a slow thing going slow

Sorry for yet *another* moan about how slow and unusable PH is, but seriously, this site is at times becoming - unusable. PH just keeps going into 'limp mode', can't be arsed to wait for pages to load anymore.

Please feel free to keep moaning, it's actually pretty useful as it alerts us to what times of day it is slowing down which will hopefully help us find the cause.

We are working on it, but unfortunately it's not proving simple to track down.

I don't know if it's something my end or yours, but every so often I get a timeout and have to refresh the page up to 10 times before it loads.

I had 2 days of it being totally unusable - but in the last 48 hours it's been back to normal

Intermittent here. One minute it's fine the next long pauses - no error screens though.

We are still analysing the data, but should hopefully have some optimisations online soon which will smooth things out. In the mean time, please keep your reports of slowness coming

Not so much about slowness as the fact that I appear to have lost the ability to start New Threads. No options in blue bar to start one in either Firefox or Safari. Obviously I have no way to bring this to anyone's attention other than by piggybacking onto another thread, sorry. Picked this one as I couldn't find one with an appropriate title for this problem.
