Really Irritating Advertising banner on main forum page

Can anyone explain why i have started getting an irritating pop-up banner advert which sits across the top of the forum page just under the main selection buttons (MyInfo, This Forum, Members etc.) The problem is that is does not disappear when I hover over the buttons so for example the button What New has a drop down which is hidden by the advert. Not only is it irritating but it makes the button and their drop downs unusable.

There shouldn't be any pop-out adverts on the forums at the moment, if you can let me know what company it is for then I'll get it removed.

Well it seems to be all of your current advertisers e.g. the Earthshare.org one. Currently it is small in the top right hand corner but occasionally it will appear as a pop-out over all the control buttons. I'll try to capture a screen grab when it happens.

That sounds like something funny that your computer is doing. The earthshare one is definitely not a pop-out, and neither are any of the others I've seen on the site today.

A screenshot would be great if you can grab one.

I'm begining to wonder if it's some irritating virus now? Have you ever heard of anythig like it?

If it was a virus then I'd expect it to be replacing our adverts with it's own, normally for fairly dodgy stuff. Assuming that isn't happening, I think it's more likely to be a very odd bug.

Will, just noticed this behaviour in FML.

All the other ads were fine, but the Dell one does obscure the drop downs.

Not sure what FML is, but yes I am using a Dell.

Here you are; incidentally this is on my work lap top as opposed to my private one so it kind of discounts a virus (unless it's on both PCs) because I've had it happen on both, incidentally both which are Dells. I think it's just coincidence that the advert is also for Dell computers

As you can see it places itself right across the control buttons meaning you cannot access those which are hidden behind the advert unless you click on the ad to close it!

I'll try and find the advert so that I can get it removed, in the mean time if you switch to the "Big Blue" skin via your preferences then it will bypass the problem.

Looks like it's not just confined to that particular advert. It just happened again with the RNLI ad. (on a different computer to last time).

Yes I know I can change the skin but though you'd be interested...

We are interested, and it is all useful info. But it really is worth switching to "Big Blue", it's a much better skin once you are used to it.

In other words, the classic skin is being quietly dropped because it's a PITA and if you could all just move to Big Blue that would be perfect

Has anyone done a poll on Gen Gassing to see how many people use PH Classic vs Big Blue or Smiley (what's that all about?)
