Yes, I guess there are many search engines that work.

However, none of them seem to return only PH threads as results.

So, anyone know? When will the PH search be working again?

The google search that you get when you click search, up on the top right, uses the google site search to focus results from pistonheads. It doesnt return your handbag.com results - you have to use google.co.uk for that.

What precisely do you miss from the PH search function, which outgrew itself a while back?

The Google box on the search page does search just the PistonHeads forums, and can even be focused to a specific forum by following the guide in the sticky at the top of website feedback. For most things, it works much better than the PH search used to. Go on, give it a try.

Rocksteadyeddie, do you work for PH? Because I don't agree. I spent 30 mins earlier trying the advice given here, and failed to find the thread I was looking for.

I think this is why the site is becoming more littered with repeated questions.

Well I am interested in getting new carpets fitted in my Tusacn.

I'm sure there was a thread which mentioned good service, and colour matching, in a place in Surrey, I think it was in a TVR forum.

Thanks for your post MrWill, you were right about the results being PH only (apart from the first 2, sponsored links I think). However my attempts at +F13= were not so good, the second link was Porsche.

But there is a more general point, hence the original question...

We get no money from the google search, but as it does a better job than the PH search used to getting the PH back to it's old state of limping along is not very high on our list of priorities. What we want to do instead is thoroughly re-build the search to cope with the size of the site and make sure it will be able to cope in future, but this takes a lot of time so there is no specific date yet.

Have you not seen the tips in the sticky about searching specific forums? Works very well IME.

The most major limitation with the PH search was the time span. It didn't cover the current day or anything older than about 8 months back, which is where the Google option blows it into the weeds.

Yep, (and apologies to Mr Will above as I have been out of the office lots and we haven't had a chat about this.)

I sat down yesterday and discussed the options for this with the team. We have formulated a plan to get this up and running which will take place over the next two weeks (there is a lot of data to index into the search etc and then there is testing too).

This will hopefully solve the search engine issue. It also is planned to solve the searching for today's post problem by keeping it up to date with the latest posts, and include data further back in the past.

We should know towards the end of next week/start of following week if the plan is working.
