Basic HTML - forum code?

Background: I do quite a bit of web development in the day job, which means the odd spot of hand-coding HTML.

As a result, I'm constantly getting the following things wrong when I post on PH:

<b> when I mean [b]
<i> when I mean [i]
<small> when I mean [small]

... and so on, although those three are the most common by far.

Would it be possible to have the more common HTML formatting tags convert to forum code automatically, the same way the kind of words that would be frowned upon in an Enid Blyton book get jolly little "don't be so rude" icons?

Yes, that's the one... three '{' s in a line followed by three '}' s... the second one will give you a NOWIKI instead, though.

I used it because I didn't know how else to get

[b]

to appear as text and not simply make my text bold!

That can be annoying sometimes as I think why does my webpage look odd - Too much time on PH?

And can we have a spoilers bit as well please? I know its been mentioned before, but it can be annoying when you go into a TV/Film link and start reading about who done it when the dont put **SPOILER** on the header.

We used to have a spoiler option and then it got broken and put on the aformentioned to do list.

It's quite a long "To-Do" list...

Looking at adding this is on there though, and maybe one day we will find time to do it.
