Is PH employing some clever 'web' jiggery-pokery in its advertising???

The ad banners above some of the threads seem to be strangely common to products I have been recently searching for on the net; coincidence, or should I just don my tin-foil hat???

Possibly tracking cookies from the ad serving company.
Download and run CCleaner and see if they stop.

Sounds like standard re-targetted display to me (aka boomerang) smile

I utilise it quite a lot; and very effective it is too.

It is based on things you have looked at, but no need for the tin-foil hat!

As Kinky says its called re-targetting and works because some of our adverts are provided by a third-party who also provide adverts for a lot of other sites. This means they are able to spot when a computer that was previously on one site (for example Halfords) connects to another site (for example PH) and serve adverts for things you were looking at before.

Hopefully, this works out better for both us and you. You get to see adverts which are more interesting/useful than the generic ones and (hopefully) that means you are more likely to click on them which makes us more money.

If you are really paranoid then clearing your cookies will kill it, but there really is no need. There is nothing personally identifiable collected at any stage of the process.

I'm all for this. Makes the adverts less irrelevant.

Although I seem to get nothing but adverts for Hamburgers... scratchchin

Perhaps a change of diet is in order!

But a sensible marketeer/agency would cap the impressions. If you've seen a banner 10 times and not clicked on it yet, then the chances of you clicking on it the 11th, or 12th, or 12th, etc, etc, time is very highly unlikely.

So save your cash and set sensible cap limits smile
