I have noticed a couple of threads where posts have been removed. Not the usual Binned removal where you could see someone had posted but could no longer read it. I mean the thread has in effect been edited by way of selected posts being completely removed. Why?
I fully endorse the forums need policing and any postings that are abusive or name & shame should be delt with. But just selecting posts and removing them is not in the PH spirit. Is it?
We may not always get on and be in full agreement. But if you have an issue with any postings then communicate with the paries involved and sort it out in an open manner.

I know threads can be removed. I've been on here a while now. I'm on about a thread that has had selective posts removed from it. They were not even OTT in their manner.
South Coast Forum - Thread about recommending a Wheel Refurb Co. It was 2 pages long and about (guessing) 10 posts have been completely removed.

No advertising. Some discussion about x is too expensive and you can save money by buying new wheels (on a cooking family car.) Others saying x is good value is your wheels are expensive (on an expensive Sports Car.)
I have seen and there is currently far worse on the forums. It is the way the thread has been edited and selective posts removed. I does not look good!

Ah ok, i've no idea. I'm a mere mortal on here, but usually it's something to do with N&S or people blatantly promoting a company repeatedly. I have seen and there is currently far worse on the forums. It is the way the thread has been edited and selective posts removed. I does not look good!

The posts where removed because they broke the name and shame rules, the subsequent posts got removed because they had quoted said name and shame post

Now the simple answer. I have looked at the deleted posts, you quoted a name & shame post, it's got nothing to do with the name of company but the context of the post. You quoted such a name & shame post so it was removed. Editing out the quote from your post would have left your post out of context since your reply was in direct response to the quote.
I feel the removal of those posts was over zealous. The guy who you claim Named & Shamed was put in his place by the other members. Removing the posts was in no way required. Yes I have been on here a while and I'm disapointed to see editing of threads without cause or communication.

I can read all posts that were deleted, the post you quoted was a name and shame it was deleted. You had quoted it before it was deleted and you were replying directly to it. So firstly the quote needed to be removed again, your post on it's own would then have been out of place and odd therefore the whole post went. It is a very common occurrence in these instances.This seems to be going around in circles to me.

We don't trot over to a regional forum to remove posts for sport, nor to annoy you, but because we feel there is a reason to do so. Nothing unusual has happened, and as someone who has been around longer than me I'm surprised you haven't seen it happen before now.

Guys - I fully understand you have a difficult job. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. I know it may seem I have been like a terrier with a bone on this but I was very suprised when I went back into the thread to find it completely changed from the previous visit!
I also feel that in this particular case the posters had policed the name & shame idiot and rightly put him in his place. If I was the company involved I would have been happy to see how the thread progressed. A little bit of strong debate and discussion is what makes some of these forums what they are. I do tend to only stick to a few selected forums and I like the way they are 'policed' on the whole. Some of the Mods know the people who are regulars in these areas and how threads tend to unfold. Maybe that is why I was suprised at the way this one was handled.

Paul, having had a look at the thread in question, the posts removed were the ones that quoted the original 'offending' post.
So yes we could have removed just the quote, in line with deleting the original but then your response to that and the responses of others would have been entirely without any context as the N&S post had been removed. If you see what I mean.
We've long had a policy of trimming individual posts that break the rules and whilst I support your view that PH is largely self policing we simply can't allow a post like the original offending one to stay in a moderated forum as we become liable for it's content.
Hope this has gone some way to explaining why it happened.
