Thumbsnap pictures

There are other ways to post an image though, Tinypic is quick and easy and if you are a flickr user we recently updated our formatting codes so that you can just copy and paste their BB code links rather than having to change it to match the PH format.
Thing is thumbsnap has been a pile of rubbish ever since PH started using it (and probably before that as well, but I wouldn't know since I wasn't aware of its existence then). Not working is its normal state of being. All image hosting sites seem to throw the occasional wobbly but thumbsnap does it all the time. When you can see the thumbsnap-hosted pictures in a thread it's time to get the flags out. Given that they are so obviously utterly incapable of making a website that works, surely it's time that PH switched the image upload facility to a site that does work, or brought it in-house?

Is it really that bad? I know that it has problems occasionally, but it works the vast majority of the time and switching to another service or internal hosting is not a trivial matter.We do also let people use other methods if they prefer. As I mentioned above, we've recently changed the parser to make it easier for flickr users and there are plenty of other alternatives if that doesn't take your fancy.
OK, maybe a little hyperbole there 
but it is very common to open a thread, find it's full of non-working pictures, and observe that they are all on thumbsnap. It's certainly much, much more common for a non-working picture to be on thumbsnap than on any other image host.
Also, from looking at things like the pattern of complaints, the comments that other people post or do not post about the pictures, and the posts that quote the pictures, it seems there's an awful lot of "it works for Fred and Sheila but not for Jim" going on... it seems highly dependent on what browser and browser settings someone's using.
(FWIW I'm using Opera (currently 10.60, but the problem has been apparent in all previous versions since PH started using thumbsnap), on Ubuntu, with cookies only allowed for those particular sites which require them for logins (so PH cookies are allowed but those from thumbsnap and any other image host are blocked).)

It's much more common for a non-working picture to be on thumbsnap because the majority of pictures are there. This also makes it more noticeable when things do go wrong, because rather than just the occasional red X you can end up with threads full of them. but it is very common to open a thread, find it's full of non-working pictures, and observe that they are all on thumbsnap. There was an issue affecting only opera users a while back (You and Silent1
), but everything else I've seen has been related to the whole site going down, affecting everyone. A lot of the "I can't see it", "I can" posts stem from one person posting during the downtime and the second posting after it has come back up. Of course, if you can link to somewhere which isn't the case then I'd be very interested to take a look.

We were having some networking problems with our old service provider which was unfortunately out of our hands (they blamed it on Distributed Denial of Service attacks). As this started happening too much for about a week or two, we moved all of our servers to an entirely new datacenter (which itself took about a week as there is a lot of data to move).
The move has now been completed and as a bonus, we were able to upgrade not only the server hardware but invested in gigabit connections so we should be able to support multiple times more traffic now.
