Watch classifieds on PH - Ruined by a dealer......

Just a rant really. I wonder why dealers are allowed to post adverts in your classifieds?

I look at a few forum sales sections and dealers are prohibited from posting on them all. It's usually a place where like minded folks can sell or trade their wears.

Do the dealers pay for their ads on here? The company I refer to must have 95% of the listed ads on the watch section (all massively overpriced too!)

So why not filter out all the dealer ads?

And are dealers not allowed to make a profit? I'd not realised that they were charities

I've noticed this, however, you can just search for private ads.

Ahh. Didn't know you could filter them out.

No problem with them making a profit, but usually they do the ads on their own website or eBay shop, rather than on an enthusiasts classifieds forum.

As you say - if they are overpriced - then they won't sell

We've had a few problems in the past with watch dealers pretending to be private sellers in our classifieds, so we thought we'd trial allowing them to advertise legitimately. At least this way, you can see who they are and deal with them appropriately or filter them out according to your preference.

If it does start to cause problems though, we will be quite happy to reverse the decision and go back to being just private advertisers.

That dealer has had the same watches in the classifieds for as long as I can remember.
