Posted thread about my classified advert, it's price and how it's annoying that your p&j ends up being worth peanuts when you come to sell.

It's been removed - why? It was just starting to get interesting - peoples views on whether it was the right value and comparison with other cars.

It was deemed as an advert and all such threads are routinely removed from the forums.

You should have received an email explaining why it was removed.

This site has a classifieds section. I've advertised there. And I linked to it. And you don't like that? Interesting promotional technique, i'll give you that

Rule of Posting 8 states you shall not......

Post links to websites or adverts for commercial or personal gain. All advertising on PistonHeads must be through the normal channels.

Your mail would have contained something along those lines.

Sometimes the mails are delayed for some reason, never have found out why.

It's one of the areas where we try do try to be consistent, if we didn't take a firm line I can assure you that the forums would be overrun with adverts.

Behind the scenes we delete many on a daily basis.

you also allow a lot of similar phrased threads to run with links to their ads , I don't mind it personally , it usually makes for fairly interesting reading but it seems double standards do apply

There should be no similar type Advert threads if you see any please report them as they should not be there.

I've seen countless "What's it worth" , "What's wrong with my ad" threads as a thinly veiled disguise for additional exposure , some have ran for numerous pages , I could probably dig one out of the archives right now ( Soovy's purple Porsche springs to mind ) are you really suggesting these threads ran under the radar , rather than being conveniently overlooked so as not to upset one of the more prolific posters

If your saying that the playing field isn't level then report any thread you feel that breaches the rules, it's all anonymous all reports are viewed and acted upon as required.

Also with the number of threads/posts made daily I can assure that not all will be read by the Mods there are only about 20 of us around at odd times during the day.

I've just re-visited the thread I was thinking of , at some stage the link to the ad was removed but the thread was allowed to continue ( circa 200 posts ). The fact that the link was binned shows the moderators had taken exception to that aspect of it but allowed the thread to continue , yet in Futie's case the whole thread was completely removed , do you still maintain that double standards do not apply ?

This is not meant as a dig , just it seems clear to me the Mods can use their discretion as they see fit and the rules of posting are not upheld as rigorously as you would like to believe

Deleting posts is always going to annoy the content author and, as i've said, it appears to be self-defeating in this instance; curbing a debate and some extra search activity in your classifieds area.

Agree that you have to have some element of content control but given the posting format for URLs it would be childs play to check for self-referencing links.

In addition, a post with a URL embedded strikes me as a good post to moderate before publishing anyhow ..

Each mod will take what action he or she thinks is relevant Daz and Dom in the Porsche forum may just edit, close or deleted the thread/post as they see fit.

They also now the regulars and may show some tolerance where other mods who do not frequent that forum unless covering may not make the same decision.

The length of time thread has been running and the on-going discussion within that thread also may be taken into consideration with any action taken.

We try to be consistent it doesn’t always happen.

I think most of the "prolific posters" are familiar with areas like the sin bin and the "go stand in the corner" messages when banned from a forum, I don't think the mods take a preferential line with the old boys, rather a "you should know better" stance!
