The icon on the side of a topic ( i think it a case) could we use that to rate the topic.
More often than not i like many others discover the good threads on page 20 or even 50 and so end up wasting a few hours catching up or asking on the thread for a sumary.
If we had the option of say clicking a +1 symbol to let people know it is worth looking at or getting interesting, i dont think we would miss so much because we would be able to check higher rated threads first.
It could also assist the site managent by letting them know what us readers/contributers like and dislike. And possibly assist the mods as thet would know where the highest level of activity is.
Similar to the lkke or dislike of posts idea just expanded to the whole topic.

The other one that had crossed my mind was a new page "What's Hot" or something similar, which works like "What's New" but shows the most posted on topics, rather than in time order.

Obvious flaw to that is the fact that posters can fill pages with every single post saying Poster: 'tard

Poster4: No you're a 'tard
Ph's "What's hot" would be a horrific advertisement for the site!

If the "posts" tab in what's new were clickable to switch between the two options it might work and make it less obvious to the lounge posse and equally Mr Google and his friends ? And an option not open to new-ish members either to avoid just ramping up the count for the sake of it. Just my

It was thumb up/thumb down and it effectively rated a thread as you have suggested but, as I said, it very quickly stopped getting used.
