Mobile site - pinch zoom?

Apologies if this has been covered before, but is there a design choice around not being able to zoom in/out on the mobile site (at least it doesn't work on an iPhone 4)? It makes looking at images frustrating and feels odd when i'm used to this on other mobile sites.

Can you consider it otherwise please?

It works in my iphone? although it didn't used to not sure what changed!.
You should be able to force your iphone to do it , double tap the screen with 3 fingers at the same (index,middle and the one next to the little finger unless you choose the devil fist ), any way doing that should zoom it in.

I think it works if you view full-fat site on iPhone but not mobile version.

ETA. I only use the full version on iPhone - didn't like mobile version.

This is what I have found

Mobile - no pinch zoom and generally dead

Full site - pinch zoom, takes some getting used to but doesn't die

I really like the mobile site but whereas the full site will just sit there if the main site is slow and get there eventually (i.e. I can let it load up and do something else quickly), the mobile site craps out so quickly you have to refresh, refresh, refres..ah fk it, view full website

you must have the special version, I can't get it to do it

It's because some people use the img tags for posting images, they are not clickable to see larger. If they use pic tags you can tap them and view the image and pinch zoom on it.

As far as I am aware there is nothing in the code which is disabling it, and it works on my (none-iPhone) phone, so I assume this must be an iPhone "feature".

Mine doesn't zoom on a blackberry, but to be honest it doesn't need to, whereas on my old se xperia mini zooming was really essential as it was a real struggle to view the site.

I get that with images and that fine

But the actual forum text, are there people that can pinch zoom this on mobile? I didn't think it could be done

But you don't need to pinch zoom on PH mobile for the text. As it's standard text sized. If you have trouble reading it you need to turn on iPhone accessibilty options in settings.

You can pinch zoom the full website on mobile though.

You do sometimes, for instance when people put stuff in small text

and as previously mentioned for certain pictures it would be handy....

I'm more perturbed than I was as Mr Will says they haven't restricted it, so why isn't it working

You are right!

It must be footnotes, which I hardly ever read

There must be a reason I wanted it dagnammit!!

(I tend to use the main site now as it doesn't error but it bothers me when something should work but doesn't for no apparent reason)

It won't show as small txt on the mobile but will when you look at full site.

Looks like it is an iFail-specific problem! Pinch zoom works fine on the HTC Mozart sat on my desk but not on my iPhone 4.

So, despite it's probably a 'speshul' Apple feature, can it be added to the bug list? I would expect a large proportion of the mobile site is accessed by iPhones, and so it might be worth investigating?

I've added it to the bugs list but as the mobile site is hosted by a separate company it will probably be a while before we get any action.
