Thread locking, Are there rules?

Just out of idle curiosity of course, if someone starts a thread and then decides they aren't happy with the way it's progressing and requests a thread lock, is this the right of the OP, or a measured decision from the Mod involved, on behalf of PH?

Also, can a poster, who is not the OP, request a thread to be reopened? Just wondered how it all worked is all.

To be fair, the original request had been dealt with so the OP should be able to request locking.

It was developing into a bit of a cat fight too and the OP wasn't even able to answer back as they were known to be travelling.

I'd say good call by the mods.

Just to answer your question, the OP has the ability to request closure on his own thread anyone can do that via the report button. As to whether it's closed or not is usually at the discretion of the moderator(s).

You do look at threads with a view as to "reap what you sow" but in the main we would normally evaluate as to why the OP wants it closed/removed and go from there.

If there is ever a problem regarding emails, again just send a report in or mail one of the mods and we can take a look to see what's going on.

I'm of course referring only to mails sent via the PH mail system.
