someone advised blocking it, so ended up doing so

is it likely to impact the speed of the server or is it something that will slow it down ?

Good spot. I think I'll block it too, prevents them tracking your links which only slows down your browsing experience.

Correct.

Blocking skimlinks.com will not affect browsing PH itself; will make it fractionally but noticeably quicker to browse to external links; and will save a lot of trouble when the silly thing isn't working.

As with ad-blockers, we can't stop you blocking skimlinks (and we understand you blocking it if it is causing you problems) but please be aware that doing so does deprive the site of a source of income, so we'd prefer if it you didn't.

would love to view the site without add blockers, it is slow now, it is a hell of a lot worse without adblockers

now and then I open the site in IE, then goto click onthe links...
