A "Recommend" button would be useful

I would think a "recommend" button would be useful on the PH forums, similar to the ones on the Guardian CIF. And even better, with a filter to use when searching long threads for the best postings.
As Garlick said; "PH prides itself on being free of trinkets and adornments within the forums" and I for one very much appreciate this. Many other forums' content is simply overshadowed by avatars, stupid signatures and vacuous 'favorite quotes' (sic).
A "recommend" button would help declutter a thread by reducing the number of "+1", "^^^^^^" and "what he said" posts.
It would also add value to the thread by recording the majority of readers who don't post because they don't want to clutter up a thread by posting simply "+1", "^^^^^^" or "what he said".

I'll put it on the list of ideas, but I don't think it is something we will want to do any time soon.
Recommend/Rate buttons work on news sites where the posts are fairly impersonal as people rate them accurately based on their content. PH is a different beast, where personalities dominate and (if Ted's experiments in days gone by still hold true) the various cliques end up "up voting" themselves and (if allowed) down voting others with little basis on the actual content of the posts.
We might give it another shot one day, but it's not likely to happen any time soon.
