Laptop "freezes" on PH. Why?

Hi,

Since some time last week I've had the problem that my laptop "freezes" when surfing PH. Nothing works - no flashing disk light, numlock/keylock doesnn't respond - the only way out is to hold the power button down until it shuts down.

I've looked in the windows log files and there's nothing which gives me a hint of what it could be. Up to now it has only happened on PH (but that could just be because I spend a lot of time on here!). Sometimes it happens a couple of times per hour, but it can also go for a couple of days without doing it.

Anyone got any ideas?

That's very odd, there shouldn't be any way for PH to crash your entire PC, even if we wanted to.

Which browser do you use, and have you tried any alternatives?

Some of the adverts will cause my (old) Nokia to crash whilst browsing.

My laptop has started to freeze on ph,only last couple of weeks but have no problem on my phone.it does your head in because just as you find something it does it .

IE8 on Vista, all updates applied. Norton Antivirus 2011.

Haven't tried any other browsers, will do that tomorrow when I should hopefully have a bit more time.

That's about the same as me, except I've only got an old-fashioned phone, so I can't test that!

Try Firefox and download Adblock Plus.

Problem One: Internet Explorer
Problem Two: Vista
Problem Three: Norton Antivirus



In all seriousness though, if numlock/capslock are not responding then it's your laptop, not PH that is the problem, and quite possibly a hardware issue (RAM Module faulty/CPU Overheating/H.D.D. I/O errors etc)

Are the fans running at full speed when it crashes? It is likely the laptop is overheating, the heat sinks in laptops are prone to dust and fluff, especially if your using it on your lap/bed/sofa/floor!

It would be worth leaving it doing something e.g. playing a full length film, also run scandisk (Open My Computer, Right click C:, Properties, Tools, Check disk for errors)
